Cookie policy

Last updated: June 4, 2026

1. Introduction

This cookie policy explains how CircleResume, operated by Dumitrache Florentin-Cristian Persoană Fizică Autorizată (PFA) ("we", "us", or "our"), uses cookies and similar technologies when you visit our website and use our online resume builder at circleresume.com (together, the "Site"). It explains what these technologies are, which ones we use, why we use them, how long they last, and the choices and rights you have to control them.

We use essential cookies and similar technologies to keep the Site secure and working. Optional analytics are only used if you agree through our cookie banner or preferences. Functional preferences (such as theme and sidebar layout) are described in Section 3. You can change or withdraw your analytics choice at any time, as described in the How to manage cookies section below.

This policy should be read together with our Privacy policy and our Terms and conditions. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where required by law, ask for your consent again.

2. What are cookies

Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile) when you visit it, and that can be read back on later visits. They are widely used to make websites work, to keep them secure, and to remember your preferences. Cookies can be:

  • Session cookies: Temporary cookies that expire when you close your browser.
  • Persistent cookies: Cookies that remain on your device for a set period or until you delete them.
  • First-party cookies: Cookies set by the website you are visiting (CircleResume).
  • Third-party cookies: Cookies set by a domain other than the one you are visiting.

Similar technologies

Besides cookies, websites can use other technologies that store or read information on your device, or that recognise it, without necessarily saving a traditional cookie file. Where this policy refers to "cookies and similar technologies", this includes:

  • Browser storage (such as localStorage and sessionStorage): used to remember small pieces of information in your browser. For example, we use localStorage for some functional preferences — see Section 3(b).
  • Request-based identifiers: a value, such as a temporary hash generated from your request, used to recognise a visit without storing a cookie on your device. Our optional analytics provider uses this method instead of cookies (see Section 3).

3. Cookies we use

We use cookies and similar technologies in three categories, based on their purpose: essential technologies required for security and sign-in; functional preferences that remember optional UI choices; and optional analytics, which we only use with your consent. We do not use advertising or marketing cookies (see Section 4). The tables below list what we use, how long it lasts, and why.

a) Essential cookies

These cookies and similar technologies are required for core features such as authentication, security, remembering your cookie choices, and saving your work in Guest mode. All essential technologies are first-party (set by CircleResume) — we do not use third-party essential cookies. They are always active because the Site cannot work properly without them, and they are not used for analytics, advertising, or marketing. Consent requirements for strictly necessary cookies can differ depending on your country or region; we keep this category as small as possible. If you do not agree to essential cookies, please do not use the Site. If you already have an account, you may delete it from your account settings.

TechnologyTypeStorageDurationPurpose
__Secure-better-auth.session_tokenFirst-partyCookie7 daysKeeps you signed in to your account. Required for authentication.
cookie_consentFirst-partyCookie12 monthsStores your cookie preferences so the consent banner does not reappear on every visit. Uses Secure flag when served over HTTPS.
better-auth.*First-partyCookieVariesOther Better Auth cookies used for secure authentication flows (for example OAuth state, CSRF protection, and callback validation). Names follow the better-auth.* pattern. Duration depends on the specific cookie — some are short-lived and cleared when a flow completes; others may last until the browser session ends.
circle-resume-guestFirst-partyIndexedDBUntil clearedStores your resume draft in Guest mode (without an Account). Required for Guest mode to work. See our Privacy policy (Guest mode) for details on server backup and retention.
circle-resume:guest-draftFirst-partylocalStorageUntil clearedFallback copy of your Guest mode resume draft (content, template, and metadata). Used if IndexedDB is unavailable and to recover your draft locally.
guestResumeDraftServerIdFirst-partylocalStorageUntil clearedStores the identifier of your server-side guest resume draft so we can match your browser draft to our systems and import it when you create an Account or sign in.

b) Functional preferences

These technologies remember optional UI choices to make the app more comfortable to use. They are not required to sign in, edit a resume, or use core features. You can enable or disable them in our cookie banner. We do not use functional preferences for analytics, advertising, or marketing. You can also remove them by clearing cookies and site data in your browser (including localStorage for theme).

TechnologyTypeStorageDurationPurpose
sidebar_stateFirst-partyCookie7 daysRemembers whether the app navigation sidebar is expanded or collapsed (true or false).
themeFirst-partylocalStorageUntil clearedRemembers your chosen appearance in the app (light, dark, or system) on /app routes.

c) Analytics and similar technologies

In addition to cookies, we use analytics technologies that do not store cookies on your device but collect anonymous usage data. These are optional and switched off by default — they are only activated if you enable them in our cookie banner (legal basis: your consent). You can withdraw your consent at any time. Where the provider processes data outside your country, this is explained in Section 6.

TechnologyProviderStoragePurpose
Vercel Web AnalyticsVercel Inc. (USA)No cookiesCollects anonymous, aggregated data such as page views, referrers, and general device, browser, and country information. With your consent, our analytics events may also include the non-identifying onboarding categories you selected (such as country, industry, goals, and referral source), which we use only for our own internal product analytics. We do not sell or share this data with third parties for their own purposes. No cookies are stored on your device, and the data is not associated with your IP address. Visitors are identified by a temporary hash that resets every 24 hours. Data may be processed outside your country.

4. Cookies we do not use

For transparency, CircleResume does not use:

  • Advertising or targeting cookies
  • Social media tracking cookies
  • Cross-site tracking technologies
  • Third-party marketing cookies

CircleResume does not sell, share, or trade any data collected through cookies or similar technologies, and we do not use them for advertising or marketing purposes. The only external recipient of optional analytics data is our analytics provider, which acts as our processor (service provider) and does not sell that data or share it with third parties for their own business interests. For more on this provider and international transfers, see Section 6.

5. How to manage cookies

You have the right to decide whether to accept or reject cookies. You can manage your preferences in the following ways:

Cookie banner

When you first visit our Site, a cookie banner will appear allowing you to accept all categories (essential cookies, optional functional preferences, and optional analytics), accept only essential cookies, or customise your preferences. Withdrawing your consent is as easy as giving it: clicking "Cookie settings" in the footer of landing page reopens the banner so you can review or change your choice at any time, including turning optional functional preferences or analytics off again.

Browser settings

Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can set your browser to refuse cookies, delete existing cookies, or alert you when a cookie is being set. Instructions for common browsers:

Clearing your browsing data through these settings will also remove functional preferences stored in your browser, such as sidebar_state and theme in localStorage, as well as session storage used by our cookie banner. Please note that disabling essential cookies may prevent you from using certain features of the Site, such as signing in to your account.

Because our optional analytics does not use cookies (it relies on a temporary request-based hash), blocking or deleting cookies in your browser will not turn analytics off. To control optional analytics, use the cookie banner or "Cookie settings" described above.

6. Data transfers and your rights

International data transfers and your data protection rights (such as how to access, object to, or withdraw consent for the processing of your personal data, and the safeguards used when data is processed outside your country) are explained in detail in our Privacy policy. Please refer to it for full information on these topics.

7. Updates to this policy

We may update this cookie policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, the technologies we use, or legal requirements. The date shown under "Last updated" at the top of this page always indicates the current version, and any changes take effect when posted here.

If we start using new non-essential cookies or similar technologies, we will ask for your consent again through the cookie banner before activating them, and we will provide any additional notice required by law. We encourage you to review this policy from time to time.
